自考英语二作文的评分是否看重词汇量?
As we all know, writing is an important part of the English exam in self-taught higher education, especially for English majors. Many candidates are concerned about whether vocabulary plays a decisive role in their writing score. In my opinion, while having a wide range of vocabulary can be helpful, it's not the only factor that determines one's writing ability and score.
Firstly, vocabulary alone cannot ensure a high score in writing. A well-written essay should also have a clear structure, logical argumentation, and coherent expression, which are equally important to impressing the examiner. If an essay is filled with numerous fancy words but lacks coherence or logic, it may not receive a high score.
Secondly, the quality of vocabulary is more critical than the quantity. It's true that using appropriate vocabulary can demonstrate one's language proficiency and enhance the readability of an essay. However, overusing obscure or uncommon words may lead to confusion or even misunderstanding. It's more important to use vocabulary accurately and appropriately according to the context of the essay, rather than simply showing off one's word power.
Thirdly, the assessment criteria of writing in self-taught higher education are comprehensive and diverse, including task completion, organization, coherence and cohesion, grammar and vocabulary, etc. Therefore, while vocabulary is essential, it is only one aspect of the assessment. To earn a good score, candidates should focus on improving their overall written performance and meeting the requirements of the task.
In conclusion, having a strong vocabulary is undoubtedly beneficial to writing in self-taught higher education, but by no means the only factor that determines one's score. Candidates should focus on improving their overall writing quality and meeting the assessment criteria, rather than just memorizing fancy words or phrases.
